Report: Giants to release kicker Aldrick Rosas

The New York Giants had waited for the legal process to play out before making a decision on kicker Aldrick Rosas, who was arrested in June after an alleged hit and run.

Earlier this month, Rosas was formally charged with three misdemeanors, including reckless driving on a highway, hit-and-run property damage and driving while suspended/revoked for DUI of alcohol/drugs.

As a result of those charges, the Giants have opted to release Rosas and make a change at kicker, reports NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

At the time of Rosas’ June 15 arrest, the California Highway Patrol stated that “alcohol impairment is believed to be a factor in the collision,” but no sobriety test or breathalyzer was administered at the scene, reports the New York Post.

“They could determine alcohol on his breath, and it was determined he had been drinking,” Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey told The Post. “but highway patrol felt that after three hours, they could not determine what his alcohol level was some three hours before, or whether he had been drinking in the meantime. They chose not to do an alcohol test.”

The 25-year-old Rosas, who made the Pro Bowl in 2018, was coming off a down year and the arrest obviously didn’t help his situation.

Following the release of Rosas, the Giants do not have a kicker on the roster.
