Giants sign DT Olsen Pierre

The New York Giants added a piece to their defensive line on Friday, signing defensive tackle Olsen Pierre, the team announced.

Pierre, who originally signed with the Chicago Bears as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Miami in 2015, spent the past four years with the Arizona Cardinals and is intimately familiar with defensive coordinator James Bettcher.

After signing with the Bears as an undrafted rookie, Pierre, a New Jersey native, was released prior to final cuts and promptly joined the Cardinals.

With the Cardinals, Pierre appeared in 24 games from 2017-2017, recording 42 tackles, 5.5 sacks, six stuffs, two passes defensed and one forced fumble.

Pierre’s best season came in 2017 under Bettcher — a line recently repeated for edge rusher Markus Golden — when he recorded 30 tackles and 5.5 sacks, both of which were career highs.

Pierre will join an interior defensive line that features Dalvin Tomlinson and B.J. Hill, who set the Giants’ all-time record for sacks by a rookie in 2018.
