Report: Giants’ Shane Lemieux undergoes surgery, out for season

The New York Giants already lost one starting offensive lineman last week with Nick Gates. Now, they have lost a second.

Starting left guard Shane Lemieux underwent season-ending surgery to repair a partially torn patellar tendon — something he attempted to play through and something head coach Joe Judge had hoped wouldn’t shut him down.

“From everything we’ve talked about, we can’t rule anything out right now in terms of something being over,” head coach Joe Judge said on Monday. “He’ll obviously have to wait and see how his body responds. I’m very hopeful that he can come back, but that being said, I don’t have a crystal ball right now on that.

“I know he’s talking to the doctor about a couple different procedures right now, so we’ll see where that goes.”

With Lemieux now KO’ed for the season, that will likely leave Ben Bredeson as the starting left guard for the Giants.

With depth lacking, the Giants signed two more offensive lineman to their practice squad this week: Foster Sarell and Jonotthan Harrison. Harrison was a surprise cut following training camp.
