The New York Giants suffered a slew of injuries in their preseason finale against the New England Patriots, but were forced to wait and see just how bad some of those were.
Unfortunately, news is now coming in and it’s not good.
Tight end Scott Simonson, who had seemed to be a lock for the 53-man roster, got the worst of it, having suffered a high-ankle sprain that could keep him out anywhere between four and eight weeks.
With roster spots at a premium, the Giants can ill-afford to carry a tight end who could miss between a quarter and half of the season. Accordingly, it’s likely that Simonson is waived/injured and reverts to injured reserve.
In addition to Simonson, it has also now been reported that linebacker/special teams ace, Nate Stupar, suffered a concussion.
Stupar was a bubble player after struggling at linebacker this preseason, but he is arguably one of the better special teams players in the league and likely would have earned a spot for that alone. However, depending on the severity of his concussion, he, too, could be waived/injured and headed to IR.
There has been no word on the injuries sustained by wide receivers Brittan Golden and T.J. Jones, who was carted off the field, or linebacker Keion Adams.
