Report: Giants’ Nate Solder undergoes arthroscopic ankle surgery

The New York Giants have completely revamped their offensive line over the previous two seasons, signing or acquiring veterans such as Nate Solder, Kevin Zeitler and Mike Remmers, while selecting Will Hernandez in the 2018 NFL Draft.

However, that unit won’t have a chance to come together until training camp at the earliest after Solder recently underwent arthroscopic surgery to remove bone spurs in his ankle, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports.

Solder got off to a slow start in his first year with the Giants, dealing with knee/leg and neck injuries for the early part of the season, but eventually rounded into shape down the stretch. He finished the year as the Giants’ highest-graded offensive lineman.

Although fans may be concerned with his recent surgery, as Rapoport alludes, it’s not a serious issue and nothing that should cause panic. Solder has the offensive playbook down and worked side-by-side with Hernandez all year.

In Solder’s absence, players like Chad Wheeler and Brian Mihalik will see an increased number of reps, which is actually a positive for the Giants as they sort out their depth chart behind the five projected starters.
