With NFL free agency just days away and with the New York Giants needing to free up more salary cap space, the team and left tackle Nate Solder have agreed in principle to a restructured contract.
The news comes from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, although the specifics of the financials of the re-worked deal are not yet known. However, what we do know is that Solder will be sticking around in New York for at least another year, barring something unforeseen.
What the Giants were going to do with Solder, who opted out of the 2020 campaign, was one of this offseason’s biggest question marks, but that has now been answered.
Earlier in the day, ESPN’s Field Yates shared the salary cap space for each NFL team based on the league’s accounting, and the Giants come in with roughly $2.3 million in cap space before the Solder restructure.
The legal tampering period, when teams can start contacting and negotiating with free agents, begins on March 15, while the official start of free agency begins on March 17 at 4 p.m. ET.
