Report: Giants met with Morris Claiborne, Corey Liuget on Wednesday

The New York Giants have been relatively quiet on the free agent market in recent weeks, but that changed on Wednesday when they hosted a pair of free agents at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center.

ESPN’s Field Yates reports the Giants met privately with both cornerback Morris Claiborne and defensive tackle Corey Liuget.

Liuget, a first-round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, has spent his entire eight-year career with the Los Angeles Chargers.

In 108 games (103 starts), Liuget has recorded 274 tackles (207 solo),  38 stuffs, 24 sacks, six forced fumbles and 20 passes defensed.

Liuget was limited to just six games in 2019 after opening the season by serving a four-game suspension for violating the league’s performance-enhancing drugs (PED) policy and then landing on injured reserve (IR) following Week 11 due to a torn quad tendon.

Claiborne, meanwhile, has spent time with both the Dallas Cowboys and New York Jets after being selected in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft.

In 251 games, Claiborne has recorded 251 tackles (201 solo), six stuffs, one forced fumble, seven interceptions, 49 passes defensed and one touchdown.

In 2018, Claiborne had one of his best overall seasons, recording a Pro Football Focus grade of 62.7.

Neither player signed a contract with the Giants before leaving, but similarly to offensive lineman Mike Remmers, it’s worth keeping an eye on to see if they circle back following the 2019 NFL Draft.
