Report: Giants lift ‘hold’ on rookies reporting for camp

The COVID-19 pandemic has created chaos for major American sports, and never has that been more evident than the past 48 hours.

The NFL and NFLPA have agreed to cancel the preseason, but have yet to come to terms on the financials of the 2020 season. Accordingly, that has left teams in limbo as it relates to reporting for training camp.

The New York Giants were supposed to welcome their rookies to East Rutherford on Tuesday, but then pushed that back to Thursday. That was short-lived however, as the team issues a “travel hold” on Tuesday, telling their rookies to remain in place until the NFL and NFLPA have a finalized agreement.

That decision was even more short-lived than the previous decision.

Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News and Ralph Vacchiano of SNY report that the Giants have now lifted their “travel hold” less than 24 hours after it was implemented.

At least for now, that means players will begin to arrive at team facilities as early as Wednesday afternoon and undergo COVID-19 testing on Thursday.

Additionally, the arrival of rookies means that physicals can be held and contracts signed. Currently, nine of the Giants’ 10 draft picks have yet to sign rookie contract, with seventh-round linebacker Tae Crowder being the only draft pick to sign on the dotted line.
