Report: Giants interested in Kyle Van Noy

The New York Giants are in the market for edge rushers and linebackers here in 2020, and both Yannick Ngakoue and Jadeveon Clowney are among the players interested in taking up residence in East Rutherford. However, the former would likely require a sign-and-trade while the latter seeks upwards of $23 million annually.

As a result of those speed-bumps, the Giants and general manager Dave Gettleman may be forced to rely on the secondary market to patch some of their defensive holes. The good news is that at least one of those tier B players may also have interest in joining Big Blue.

Ralph Vacchiano of SNY reports that the Giants have an interest in linebacker Kyle Van Noy and that said interest may be mutual.

And it could be much more cost-effective for the Giants to try to re-sign Markus Golden, who had 10 sacks for them last year, and maybe even add New England’s Kyle Van Noy (6 ½). Both could land in the $12 million per year range, meaning the Giants could get both of them for about what it would cost to land Clowney.

The Giants do have an interest in re-signing Golden, a source said, though it will depend on what his price is. They also have an interest in Van Noy, according to another source, and the feeling is believed to be mutual since [he and Joe Judge] were together four years in New England.

Markus Golden is set to test the free agent market, but there is also a mutual interest in a potential reunion there. And as Vacchiano notes, for the cost of Clowney or Ngakoue, they may also be able to get Van Noy under contract alongside Golden for the same price.

A second-round pick of the Detroit Lions in the 2014 NFL Draft, Van Noy joined the Patriots in 2016 and has played exceptionally well, earning an impressive 83.6 Pro Football Focus grade a season ago.

In 81 career games, Van Noy has recorded 289 tackles, 15 stuffs, 10 passes defensed, two interceptions, five forced fumbles and 17.5 sacks, including 6.5 sacks in 2019.
