Report: Giants hosting Oklahoma QB Kyler Murray for pre-draft visit

The New York Giants are doing their due diligence this week, meeting with various top prospects in one last attempt to gather as much knowledge as possible ahead of the 2019 NFL Draft.

That due diligence extends to players they may not have an opportunity to draft, including Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray, who is widely expected to go No. 1 overall to the Arizona Cardinals.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that Murray is in East Rutherford today to meet with Giants executives and coaches.

The Giants previously attended Oklahoma’s pro day, where Murray put on a show. They sent a large contingent that featured including head coach Pat Shurmur, offensive coordinator Mike Shula and director of college scouting Chris Petit.

Not only did the Giants watch Murray’s on-field workout up close, they later met with him during the bench-press portion of the day, making him 30 minutes late to his press conference.

Leading up to the NFL combine, an old Shurmur quote surfaced in which he noted a preference for taller quarterbacks. However, he dismissed that when it came to Murray.

“Quarterbacks come in all shapes and sizes,” said Shurmur. “I don’t know what’s too small. Russell Wilson is 5-foot-10.”

It’s unlikely Murray were to somehow fall to the Giants at No. 6, but with a league-high 12 picks, might general manager Dave Gettleman consider trading up?
