Report: Giants have actively monitored CB trade market

The New York Giants are currently 1-4, injured ravaged and headed into a remarkably difficult stretch where they could come out the other side as bad as 1-8.

Despite their early-season struggles and the lack of optimism surrounding the team, they are apparently still looking to improve. Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports that the Giants are among the teams that have actively monitored the cornerback trade market.

Several teams have actively monitored the cornerback market in recent months, including the Buffalo Bills, Seattle Seahawks, New York Jets, Houston Texans and New York Giants. The position has only grown in importance because of injuries across the league.

With things rapidly going downhill, it would make more sense for the Giants to put players on the trade market as opposed to trying to take some off.

New York recently lost rookie cornerback Rodarius Williams for the season with a torn ACL, while the remainder of the group has drastically underperformed. James Bradberry looks like a shell of his 2020 self, Darnay Holmes has seen a reduced role and high-priced free agent addition, Adoree’ Jackson, has been inconsistent at best.

However, to be fair, part of the struggles in the secondary stem from a complete lack of pass rush up front. Quarterbacks and receivers are being given a ton of time to run freely and find open spots on the field. It’s almost impossible for the corners to defend.

Still, the cash-strapped Giants should not be looking to add anyone at any position. Rather, they should be seeking to unload large contracts and expiring contracts in an effort to beef up their draft capital.
