Report: Giants fear Ryan Connelly may have torn ACL

While the New York Giants were able to come away with a 24-3 win on Sunday against the Washington Redskins, their defense may have suffered a huge blow.

Rookie linebacker Ryan Connelly, who had become a starter in the last few weeks, may have suffered a torn ACL during the game; an injury the team reportedly fears he suffered, per Ralph Vacchiano of SNY.

“The Wisconsin product had to be carted off the field with what was called a knee injury. Now, according to SNY’s Ralph Vacchiano, a source is telling him that the Giants are fearing the worst: a torn ACL. He will go for an MRI on Monday, but that is the injury that are bracing for at the moment. He was in some serious pain after trying to tackle Redskins QB Dwayne Haskins.”

Connelly left the game when he suffered a non-contact injury and had to be carted off the field by the medical staff.

The Giants are already short-handed as it is at linebacker. Alec Ogletree was out with a hamstring injury and Tae Davis was also out with a concussion, so if Connelly is lost for the season, then it weakens an already thin unit at linebacker.

Connelly, who was the Giants fifth-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft this past April, had five total tackles with a sack and interception before leaving the game.

Connelly had 20 total tackles in four games played for the Giants in his rookie season.
