Giants re-sign WR Bennie Fowler, release LB Nate Stupar

The New York Giants released wide receivers Bennie Fowler and TJ Jones on October 1, which came just prior to a Week 5 game against the Minnesota Vikings. And at least one of them is now set to return.

The Giants announced on Monday morning that Fowler had been re-signed with linebacker Nate Stupar having his contract terminated as a corresponding move.

Fowler had one of the more impressive training camps of any receiver, and it came as a bit of a surprise when he was released alongside Jones.

“He had probably the best training camp of all the receivers this year,” wide receivers coach Tyke Tolbert said in September. “He made plays, was always making plays. That’s what you like about him: a versatile guy who’s tough, can make plays and is very smart.”

Fowler’s regular season production was lacking however, hauling in just 12 receptions for 99 yards over the team’s first four games.

Bringing Fowler back now may be a bad indication that Sterling Shepard, who is dealing with his second concussion of the year, could be out an extended period of time.
