Giants to re-sign LB Nate Stupar, waive Eric Tomlinson

In early September, the New York Giants released linebacker and special teams ace Nate Stupar as a part of some late 53-man roster shuffling.

While their special teams unit has played well without the presence of Stupar, he will soon find himself back in the fold because of a need on defense.

With both Alec Ogletree (hamstring) and Tae Davis (concussion) dealing with injury, the Giants are expected to re-sign Stupar on Tuesday to provide a little depth and insurance at the position.

Signing linebacker Josiah Tauaefa from their practice squad was another option for the Giants, but clearly they felt more comfortable going with the veteran Stupar.

Originally a seventh round pick of the Oakland Raiders in the 2012 NFL Draft, Stupar spent time with six teams over a six-year span before joining the Giants in 2018.

In 79 career games, Stupar has recorded 133 tackles, two sacks, two stuffs, four passes defensed and one interception.

In order to clear room for Stupar on the 53-man roster, the Giants will release tight end Eric Tomlinson.
