The New York Giants and head coach Joe Judge met with Dave DeGuglielmo and Marc Colombo in recent days to discuss the team’s vacant offensive line job, and it appears they have settled on the latter.
NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport reports that the Giants are expected to hire Colombo, reuniting him with Jason Garrett.
Here’s a quick breakdown on Colombo and his history as previously outlined on Giants Wire:
A former first-round pick of the Chicago Bears in the 2002 NFL Draft, Colombo had a 10-year NFL career that included 111 games played and 95 starts. In addition to his time with the Bears (2002-2005), he also spent time with the Dallas Cowboys (2005-2010) and Miami Dolphins (2011).
Following his retirement, Colombo took some time away from the game before returning in 2016 as an assistant offensive line coach for the Cowboys, which is where he’d remain until being promoted to offensive line coach in 2018.
The 41-year-old Colombo is an old school guy with old school philosophies, which seem to perfectly fit with Joe Judge’s style. And while I have no inside information to base this on, don’t be surprised to see him get the nod over DeGuglielmo if it comes down to those two assistants.
Although none of the reported hires have been officially announced outside of the three coordinators, Judge’s staff is clearly coming together and should be complete sometime over the next week or so.
