Report: Giants expected to hire Everett Withers as defensive backs coach

The New York Giants were left with an opening on their defensive coaching staff last week when the Cincinnati Bengals hired Lou Anarumo to be their next defensive coordinator.

Anarumo had been serving as the Giants’ defensive backs coach alongside assistant DeShea Townsend, who also departed East Rutherford to take a promotion with the Chicago Bears earlier this offseason.

However, the Giants will not sit on that vacancy long as they are expected to hire Florida International defensive coordinator Everett Withers to replace Anarumo.

Prior to his time with Florida International, Withers served as head coach at Texas State (2016-2018) and James Madison (2014-2015), and interim head coach at North Carolina (2011). He had also previously served as assistant head coach at Ohio State (2012-2013) and Louisville (1995-1997).

Withers also brings with him a little NFL experience, having served as the New Orleans Saints’ defensive quality control coach in 1994 and the Tennessee Titans’ defensive backs coach from 2001-2006.
