Report: Giants’ Daniel Jones expected to play vs. Cardinals

New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones (hamstring) did everything within his power to return in Week 13 against the Seattle Seahawks, but head coach Joe Judge ultimately decided to shut the 23-year-old down.

Judge acknowledged that it was a difficult decision and that Jones had pushed to play. In the end, the first-year head coach felt he was saving the second-year quarterback from himself.

“I thought he looked better as the week went on,” Judge said after the team’s Week 13 game. “This guy wanted to go out there and play. Ultimately, I’ll tell you right now, I had to protect him from himself.

“He’s a competitor. He’s a tough dude. I have no doubt he would have gone out there and fought through any pain he had.”

In Week 14 against the Arizona Cardinals however, it would appear as if Jones is on track to return.

Jordan Raanan of ESPN reports that barring an unforeseen setback, Jones is expected to suit up for the first place Giants on Sunday.

Quarterback Daniel Jones didn’t play at Seattle in Week 13, but he came closer than even the New York Giants expected at the beginning of last week.

Barring a setback, Jones is expected back from a hamstring injury this week when the Giants host the Arizona Cardinals (1 p.m. ET, Fox), according to a source close to the quarterback.

That falls in line with what Judge said earlier this week.

“I think we’re going to give him every opportunity to go on the practice field this week and show that he can defend himself on the field properly,” Judge said on Monday. “If that’s the case, we obviously want him to play. We’re going to make sure we’re doing the right thing by him.”

The Giants will return to practice on Wednesday afternoon and all eyes will once again be on Jones and his participation level.
