Report: Giants carefully watching Markus Golden’s market

The free agent market for New York Giants edge rusher Markus Golden has not set up the way he and many others anticipated, but that’s not to say he’s lacking interest.

A week into free agency, Golden has spoken to at least four different NFL teams, but the dollar amount simply hasn’t been there. And Golden intends to wait until that changes.

ESPN insider Jordan Raanan reports that Golden and his camp plan to remain patient entering the second wave of free agency, adding that the Giants are keeping a very close eye on all related developments.

Golden signed a one-year, prove-it deal with the Giants in 2019 and more than provided a return on their investment.

Two years removed from a torn ACL, Golden returned to form, recording a team-leading 10 sacks, 27 QB hits and 13 tackles for a loss. He also recorded a career-high 72 tackles and returned a fumble for a touchdown.

With James Bettcher no longer in the fold, there was some question about whether or not the Giants would be interested in bringing Golden back, but it’s clear that has not factored in. And with the pass rush pool drying up, Golden may be New York’s best remaining option.
