Report: Giants’ Ben Bredeson could miss time with hand injury

When it rains, it pours. And when it pours, it floods.

That’s the exact scenario the New York Giants are experiencing right now, having lost center Nick Gates (leg), guard Shane Lemieux (knee) and linebacker Blake Martinez (knee) for the season over the past two weeks.

The Giants also saw wide receivers Sterling Shepard (hamstring) and Darius Slayton (hamstring) go down hurt, joining fellow receiver Kenny Golladay, who has been bothered by a hip injury.

All of this comes on the heels of several other injuries and the summer retirements of offensive linemen Joe Looney and Zach Fulton, and linebacker Todd Davis.

Those issues have left the Giants thin at three positions and the one with the most issues — offensive line — may get even thinner.

Jordan Raanan of ESPN reports that guard Ben Bredeson, who who was acquired from the Baltimore Ravens in late August, may miss some time due to a hand injury.

With Bredeson now likely out, the Giants will be forced to move Will Hernandez back to left guard or plug Wes Martin, who was signed off of the Washington Football Team’s practice squad earlier this week, into the spot alongside left tackle Andrew Thomas.

Either way, the Giants will run their fourth different offensive line combination this Sunday against the New Orleans Saints and their fourth different guard next to Thomas this season.

Who could have ever guessed the Giants had interior offensive line depth issues entering this season? Certainly not general manager Dave Gettleman and head coach Joe Judge.
