The New York Giants are not quite done with their free agency haul just yet, and will now be adding another defensive lineman to the fray.
Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports that the Giants have agreed to terms with former Tennessee Titans second-round pick Austin Johnson.
Johnson, who played his college ball at Penn State under position coach Sean Spencer, is a New Jersey native, having been born and raised in Galloway Township. He attended St. Augustine Preparatory School where he was a two-sport star, also excelling in basketball.
In four seasons with the Titans, the 6-foot-4, 313-pound Johnson appeared in 58 games (13 starts), recording 83 tackles, three stuffs, five QB hits, 2.5 sacks and five passes defensed. He finished the 2019 season with a Pro Football Focus grade of 66.1.
A talented player, Johnson primarily served as a reserve in Tennessee based on the sheer numbers. That situation in unlikely to change with the Giants, who already have spots reserved for Leonard Williams, Dalvin Tomlinson and B.J. Hill while playing the 3-4.
The depth along the team’s defensive line aside, Johnson is a quality addition and will prevent a steep drop-off when the starters need a rest during games.
