Report: Gardner Minshew dealing with multiple fractures, strained ligament in right thumb

The Jacksonville Jaguars got some bad news during their bye week concerning their starting quarterback. Per ESPN insider Adam Schefter, X-rays which were taken this week by Gardner Minshew II revealed that the second-year signal-caller has multiple fractures and a strained ligament in his right thumb.

Also according to Schefter’s sources, Minshew’s issues date back to the Jags’ Week 5 game against the Houston Texans. However, despite his discomfort, he didn’t inform the team of his issues until their most recent game, which took place Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers.

With the injury just now being revealed, it’s unknown if Minshew will be able to play when the Jags return to the field Week 9 against the Texans. However, if he can’t, the team has veteran Mike Glennon as their No. 2 and also have sixth-round rookie Jake Luton on the roster.

The injury explains Minshew’s lack of zip on the ball and sailed passes as of late. He’s also had issues playing from the pocket though, which are issues he discussed even dating back to Week 4 before the injury.

With no media availability for the rest of the weeks, it appears we won’t hear from the Jags until after Sunday about Minshew’s injury. However, once more becomes available we’ll be sure to post an update.
