Report: Free agent DT Gerald McCoy’s goal is to make his decision early this week

Gerald McCoy has not made up his mind yet. The superstar free agent defensive tackle is choosing between three NFL teams: the Carolina Panthers, Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens. McCoy was originally reported to be taking the weekend to think about it, but apparently that deadline has been pushed back a little bit. According to Mary Kay Cabot at cleveland.com, McCoy’s goal is to make a decision “early this week.”

“Gerald McCoy took the weekend to mull offers from the Browns, Ravens and Panthers, and his goal is to make a decision early this week, a league source told cleveland.com.”

Each team in the race has its own unique pitch to make to McCoy.

McCoy has yet to appear in a playoff game and Tampa finished in last place in the NFC South seven out of his nine seasons in the league.

As far as winning goes, the Browns have a strong case to make as the team most likely to give McCoy a chance to win a championship. However, the Ravens had the second-best scoring defense in the league last year, while the Panthers have the best overall player and only the former league MVP among the contenders.

According to Ian Rapoport, negotiations with all three teams are still ongoing.

Stay tuned.
