Report: Frank Vogel agrees to become head coach of Lakers

Former Orlando Magic head coach Frank Vogel has agreed to a deal to become the next head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. Per Wojnarowski, Vogel’s deal is for three years.

Vogel has been in the coaching ranks since 2002 and his most recent stint as a head coach was with the Orlando Magic from 2016 to 2018. During that time, the Magic went 54-110. Vogel was relieved of his duties last April.

However, before his failed run with the Magic, Vogel was one of the most successful head coaches in the Eastern Conference. In the six seasons Vogel served as head coach of the Indiana Pacers, his teams went 250-181 and made the Eastern Conference Finals twice only to lose to LeBron James on both occasions. Now, Vogel will be coaching James, along with a promising young core of players, including Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Kyle Kuzma and Josh Hart.

Will Vogel be the coach to finally put and end to the Lakers’ six-season playoff drought? Only time will tell.
