Former Texans DL Christian Covington signing with Cowboys

At least former Houston Texans defensive lineman Christian Covington won’t have to get a new driver’s license.

The former Rice Owl has signed with the Dallas Cowboys, Adam Caplan reported on Thursday.

With defensive end J.J. Watt healthy, Covington didn’t have as big of a role as he had in previous seasons. Nonetheless, through 12 games, two of which he started, the Vancouver, British Columbia, native managed to produce 3.5 sacks and tied his career-high with four tackles for loss.

The Texans were planning on Covington to test free agency, indicating that they didn’t have high hopes to bring him back. The club re-signed defensive end Angelo Blackson to a three-year contract and brought back defensive end Joel Heath on a one-year deal.
