Report: Former Steelers WR Justin Hunter working out for Patriots

Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Justin Hunter will workout for several teams, including the New England Patriots, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

Hunter has spent five seasons in the NFL and his 2018 season was cut short because of a torn labrum. The 6-foot-4, 203 pound receiver ran a 4.44 40-yard dash, and fits the recent trend of Patriots receivers — tall and quick. His best season was with the Tennessee Titans, where he recorded 28 catches, 498 yards and three touchdowns.

The Patriots shored up their receiver depth with the return of Josh Gordon, but the final depth chart is far from determined. Undrafted rookie Jakobi Meyers has made his case for the 53-man roster, along with Gunner Olszewski. Julian Edelman and N’Keal Harry are the only locks to make the roster, with Demaryius Thomas and Phillip Dorsett sitting right on the edge.

New England is likely bringing Hunter in to find a deep threat receiver, that comes with a low price tag.
