Report: Former Steeler Morgan Burnett to sign with the Browns

It appears it didn’t take long for former Pittsburgh Steelers safety Morgan Burnett to find work. According to Cleveland Browns beat writer Nate Ulrich, Burnett is planning to sign with the Browns. Safety became a need for Cleveland when Jabrill Peppers was traded to the New York Giants in the deal that brought them Odell Beckham Jr.

Burnett came to the Steelers last season in hopes of filling the void left by Mike Mitchell. But this never came to fruition as Burnett dealt with injuries for much of the season. He was also miscast as a dime linebacker in the team’s sub-package defense so even when he was healthy he didn’t have the impact many expected.

Pittsburgh drafted Terrell Edmunds in the first round last year and he stepped into the starting role and played well from the jump. This made the decision of giving Burnett his release easier for the team but it does leave a void on the safety depth chart.
