Report: Former Saints WR Keith Kirkwood signing with Panthers

According to a report by Adam Schefter at ESPN, former Saints wide receiver Keith Kirkwood is signing a one-year deal with the Panthers.

After playing for Matt Rhule at Temple, Kirkwood went undrafted and first signed with the Saints in November of 2018. He started out on their practice squad but he wound up playing in eight games that year, totaling 13 catches (11 of them going for first downs), 209 receiving yards and two touchdowns. For most of the 2019 season he was on the injured reserve list after getting hurt Week 1 against the Texans.

If nothing else, Kirkwood (6-foot-3, 210 pounds) brings familiarity with the system Carolina will be running. At LSU, offensive coordinator Joe Brady used a very similar scheme to the one Sean Payton employs for New Orleans.

Kirkwood is the second free agent wide receiver the Panthers are signing this year. The other is former Raiders and Ravens wideout Seth Roberts.
