Report: Former Ravens safety Eric Weddle getting tons of interest in free agency, narrowed to 5 teams

When the Baltimore Ravens let safety Eric Weddle go earlier this week, it was wondered if the team could re-sign him in free agency to a more cap friendly deal. With a ton of attention coming from other teams this week, including a reported 11 offers, it seems far less likely.

Weddle had previously talked about potentially hanging up his cleats if the Ravens were to let him go. He since backtracked on that comment and has talked about how he could play for a little longer. With a deep free agent market for safeties this offseason, plenty of teams seem to believe Weddle has a bit left in the tank.

At this stage of Weddle’s career, he’s not as physically dominant as he used to be. Instead, he makes up for that with football intelligence and being a great locker room leader. For some teams in need of a savvy safety to help run their secondary or a core player to help shape a young defense, Weddle is going to make a lot of sense.

Baltimore might have to turn their attention to other free agents or the 2019 NFL draft if they wish to bring on another safety this offseason to replace Weddle.
