According to a report by Adam Schefter at ESPN, former Panthers tight end Greg Olsen has agreed to a one-year, $7 million deal with the Seahawks.
Olsen started his NFL career with the Bears but was traded to Carolina in 2011 for a third-round draft pick – arguably the one of the worst trades in Chicago’s history. Olsen went on to play 126 games for the Panthers, totaling 6,463 receiving yards and 39 touchdowns in nine seasons. He was a Pro Bowler three times.
Seattle isn’t getting the Olsen who averaged over 1,000 yards a year at his peak. They are getting a tight end who has soft hands and as much experience as anyone at the position who’s still in the league, now that Antonio Gates and Rob Gronkowski appear to be done playing.
Once Olsen is also done with football, he’s expected to become a full-time TV analyst.
