Report: Former Packers OL T.J. Lang planning to retire from NFL

Former Green Bay Packers guard T.J. Lang has likely played his final game in the NFL.

According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, Lang – who was released by the Lions earlier this month – is planning to retire, with a decision potentially being announced later this week.

A fourth-round pick out of Eastern Michigan in 2009, Lang played eight seasons with the Packers before signing with the Lions in 2017. He started 19 games in Detroit the last two seasons but couldn’t stay healthy, suffering a pair of concussions and a neck injury to end last season while also dealing with several lower-body issues each year.

Lang made the Pro Bowl during his final season in Green Bay in 2016. He made it again during his first season in Detroit. He was on the field for only six games in 2018, a new career-low.

Overall, Lang played in 119 games and made 94 starts for the Packers. He became a full-time starter in 2011 and eventually settled in as the starting right guard next to Bryan Bulaga in 2013.

There was some speculation that Lang could return to Green Bay for one last run before retiring, but the Packers signed versatile offensive lineman Billy Turner in free agency, likely squashing the reunion.
