Report: Former Laker Devontae Cacok signs with Nets

Former Los Angeles Lakers big man Devontae Cacok is ending his chapter in L.A. as he signed a deal with the Brooklyn Nets, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Cacok, 24, initially signed a two-way contract with the Lakers in 2019 and fulfilled the two years on his deal, but when he became a restricted free agent this summer, L.A. didn’t bring him back.

He went on to play for the Lakers in the Summer League in hopes of impressing enough to earn another shot elsewhere. Los Angeles went in a different direction for their new two-way players in Joel Ayayi and Austin Reaves.

Cacok played 21 total games over two seasons and averaged 2.1 points and 1.8 rebounds in 5.1 minutes a game. He shot 57.1% overall.

Now with Brooklyn, Cacok will have the chance to fight for the second, and final, two-way slot open. Kessler Edwards, the No. 44 overall pick in 2021, has the other.

He reacted to the news on Twitter:

Cacok can always say he is an NBA champion after being on the roster for the 2019-20 title run.
