Kicker Matt Bryant to work out for Falcons

Complain on Twitter and ye shall receive.

Former Falcons kicker Matt Bryant has told the team’s TV analyst Coy Wire that he will be trying out for Atlanta tomorrow.

Bryant hinted at the news himself earlier today when he shared a fishing photo with the message that he’d be flying out soon.

Atlanta tried to move on without Bryant this offseason, but replacing him has proved much harder than last year, when Giorgio Tavecchio made all five of his field goal attempts and all eight of his PATs. This preseason, Tavecchio has hit only half of his field goal attempts, and Blair Walsh has struggled at practice since signing.

Bryant may be 44 years old, but he’s been one of the most reliable kickers in the NFL for a long time. Over the last 10 years with the Falcons, he’s connected on 88.7 percent of his field goals in the regular season and all 12 attempts in the playoffs.

Update:

Vaughn McClure at ESPN has confirmed Wire’s report about Bryant’s workout, which will happen at noon.

Unless Bryant absolutely bombs this tryout, it’s hard to imagine any reason why the Falcons wouldn’t re-sign him.
