Report: Former Jets guard James Carpenter to sign 4-year deal with the Falcons

According to a report by Adam Schefter at ESPN, former Jets guard James Carpenter is going to sign a four-year deal with the Falcons.

Carpenter has previously played for coach Dan Quinn when he was the defensive coordinator for Seattle early in his career. At this time, Carpenter projects as the team’s starting left guard. It’s likely they will allow Andy Levitre to become a free agent.

Carpenter was one of several potential bargain targets we had picked out for Atlanta, but we’ll have to wait and see how much he’s getting before we judge the deal.

A first-round pick by the Seahawks in 2011, Carpenter has not lived up to that status, but he has proven to be an effective and reliable starter if nothing spectacular.
