Report: Former Jaguars QB Blake Bortles to sign with Rams as backup

According to a report from Jeff Darlington of ESPN, former Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles will be signing with the Los Angeles Rams on a one-year deal to be the team’s No. 2 quarterback behind Jared Goff.

Bortles, 26, was drafted by the Jags in the 2014 NFL Draft out of the University of Central Florida. While with the team, he had a roller coaster career, but managed to accumulate a career completion percentage of 59.3 for 17,646 passing yards, 75 interceptions and 105 touchdowns while starting in 73 games.

Bortles was officially released from the Jaguars’ roster last Wednesday at the beginning of the new league year after the team agreed to an $88 million contract with free agent quarterback and former Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles.

Now, after five seasons in Jacksonville, the 26-year-old Bortles will be joining former teammate Dante Fowler Jr. and former offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch, who is now an offensive assistant on the Rams staff.
