Report: Former Falcons slot CB Brian Poole to meet with Jets

The New York Jets have made a habit of picking up some former Atlanta Falcons players in recent years. Last year, they added wide receiver and kick return specialist Andre Roberts and also worked out fullback Derrick Coleman. This year, they have their eye on another former Atlanta product.

According to a report by Tiffany Blackmon at NFL Network, former Falcons cornerback Brian Poole will be visiting with the Jets soon. They are in need of a new slot cornerback with their usual nickel corner Buster Skrine leaving in free agency and reportedly signing a three-year deal with the Chicago Bears.

Poole can also play safety. He’s generally sharp in coverage and is one of the better pass-rushing defensive backs in the league. The Falcons want him back, but only at a lower price than a tender would have cost. There’s a good chance Poole signs somewhere else for more, though.

Atlanta can afford to let him leave because Damontae Kazee projects to be their new slot corner this year.

Update:

Vaughn McClure at ESPN reports that Poole will also visit with the Bengals after meeting with the Jets.
