Report: Former Eagles CB Ronald Darby set to visit Chiefs

Cornerback help could be on the way for the Chiefs.

According to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Former Eagles CB Ronald Darby is expected to visit the Chiefs on Wednesday evening. He described the Chiefs’ interest level as serious.

The Chiefs will likely need to see how Darby is doing in his recovery from a torn ACL in November before making a decision here. It’s not the first injury for Darby either; in the 2017 and 2018 seasons, Darby only played in 17 games. The Chiefs need to do their homework on this oft-injured corner before making a decision. The last thing they can afford to do is overcommit their wallet on someone who won’t be available. We’ve seen that before.

Darby entered the NFL as a member of the Bills via the 2015 NFL draft. He was traded to Eagles from the Bills in exchange for receiver Jordan Matthews ahead of the 2017 season.

At 25 years old, Darby is one of the remaining coveted free agents on the market. Darby has 54 regular-season passes defended during his career, which is good for top-15 in the NFL during that span. His knack for getting after the football creates a tremendous amount of value.

If Darby can stay healthy, he’s a surefire No. 1 corner in the NFL — something the Chiefs desperately need. Signing Darby would almost certainly ease the pain of losing Justin Houston, Dee Ford and Eric Berry.
