Report: Former Bengals LB Malik Jefferson claimed by Browns

Former Cincinnati Bengals players didn’t have long stints on the waiver wire. First, Cody Core got picked up by the New York Giants.

Linebacker Malik Jefferson then got added by the Cleveland Browns, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Jefferson was a surprise cut by the Bengals as a name tucked in there with 30-plus other moves. He was raw coming out of Texas and never clicked last year, though it’s a new thing for the team to give up on a third-round investment so quickly.

But those Browns have apparently seen plenty of Jefferson and covet the upside. If the coaching helps him progress, the Bengals could be seeing plenty of him in the years to come.

Cincinnati was content to keep just five linebackers on the initial 53-man roster, though, including Germaine Pratt. A new coaching staff wanted to get their own guys in the door and that left Jefferson on the outs.
