Report: Former AAF QB Luis Perez working out for Panthers today

This past spring, former Carolina Panthers quarterback Garrett Gilbert became a starter for the now-defunct Alliance of American Football league. Another former AAF quarterback may soon be joining Carolina’s roster.

According to a report by NFL insider Adam Caplan, Luis Perez – who spent the abbreviated 2018 AAF season as the starting quarterback for the Birmingham Iron – is working out for Carolina Monday, just two days before the team is set to report to Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C. for 2019 training camp.

Perez (6-foot-3, 218 pounds) started seven of eight games for the Iron and threw for 1,460 yards, five touchdowns and six interceptions. The Iron went 5-3 and had clinched a playoff berth before the league suddenly shut down after Week 8.

Perez signed as an undrafted free agent with the Los Angeles Rams in 2018 before being waived at final cuts. He recently spent a month with the Philadelphia Eagles before being waived in May.
