Report: Former 49ers DL signs with Seahawks

Another former 49ers defensive lineman has made his way to the Seattle Seahawks. According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, defensive tackle Earl Mitchell, whose option the 49ers declined in January, is set to sign with San Francisco’s NFC West rival.

Mitchell, 31, played 30 games with 28 starts in two seasons with the 49ers. He signed as a free agent in 2017 after spending his first four years in Houston as a third-round pick, then three years in Miami.

He posted one sack and 61 tackles in his two seasons while playing a key role as the nose tackle in the middle of their defensive line.

The 49ers declined the option for his third season as they aimed to get younger along the defensive front. Mitchell is the second member of the 2018 49ers to sign with Seattle in free agency, joining defensive end Cassius Marsh.

San Francisco and Seattle are slated to meet in Weeks 10 and 17 this season.
