Report: Falcons working out Notre Dame punter prospect today

According to a report by Vaughn McClure at ESPN, the Falcons are working out Notre Dame punter prospect Tyler Newsome today. Newsome put on quite a show of strength at his pro day with 30 bench press reps, which was better than at least 20 current NFL superstars.

However, Matt Bosher is projected to be Atlanta’s punter again in 2019. He’s one of the better players in the league at his position and is under contract for another year. His cap number for 2019 is $2.545 million, so the Falcons could be considering cutting him for a small bit of cap savings.

If Newsome is drafted (or more likely a UDFA signing), he’d serve as the offseason competition for Bosher. His chances of beating out Bosher would be low, but it’s not out of the question.
