Report: Falcons to sign former Giants guard Jamon Brown to 3-year deal

The Falcons are doubling down on New York guards in free agency this year, apparently. In addition to reportedly planning to sign former Jets guard James Carpenter to a four-year deal, the team is also going to sign former Giants guard Jamon Brown, according to Zach Klein at WSB – via D. Orlando Ledbetter at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

“The Falcons are expected to sign former New York Giants guard Jamon Brown to a three-year contract, according to Zach Klein of WSB Channel 2 Action News.”

Adding Carpenter makes a lot of sense for Atlanta’s line. Brown not so much. He was ranked just No. 62 at guard by Pro Football Focus last season and paying for two outside guards given the team’s other needs feels like a stretch.

Brown was a third-round pick by the Rams in 2015 but he flamed out there after three and a half years and wasn’t much better in New York.

Nevertheless, given the investment they’re making in him it’s clear Brown projects as Atlanta’s starting right guard.
