Report: Falcons sign former Chiefs DL Allen Bailey to 2-year deal

According to a report by Ian Rapoport at NFL Network, the Falcons have signed former Chiefs defensive lineman Allen Bailey to a two-year deal worth $10.5 million.

As Rapoport noted, the team lost defensive tackle Michael Bennett earlier in the day on Monday due to a broken ankle.

However, signing Bailey likely has more to do with the injury defensive end Steven Means suffered at OTAs. Means tore his Achilles and will miss the entire 2019 season. Two weeks later, the Falcons brought Bailey in for a visit but did not sign him at the time.

Atlanta lost another defender on Monday for the year. Backup safety J.J. Wilcox tore his ACL and will miss the whole season. So, it’s possible Bailey isn’t the only player they’ll pick up this week.

Bailey is coming off of a strong year in Kansas City. He posted six sacks and 10 quarterback hits, both career highs.
