Report: Falcons K Blair Walsh missed 4 of 9 field goals at practice

The Atlanta Falcons’ kicker situation may get worse before it gets better.

According to a report by D. Orlando Ledbetter at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, newly-signed kicker Blair Walsh had a rough day at practice in Flowery Branch, connecting on only five of his nine field goal attempts.

Walsh was signed a few days go to serve as competition for the struggling Giorgio Tavecchio, who has only hit four of eight field goals so far this preseason. Tavecchio was perfect during the regular season last year when he subbed in for Matt Bryant three games. While he’s had the right attitude, something is clearly off with his kicks.

Tavecchio did not kick in front of the media today, per the Athletic.

Walsh has a lot more experience than Tavecchio, but there’s a reason why he was not with a team last season. One missed kick should not define a career, but his miss for Minnesota in the playoffs against Seattle was of the unforgivable variety. He also missed some critical kicks for the Seahawks in his one year there.

Until either one starts actually connecting with some regularity, the chorus for the Falcons to bring back Matt Bryant is only going to get louder.
