Report: Falcons free agent CB Brian Poole set to visit Jets

The Jets are in the market for a nickel cornerback.

Could Brian Poole be the answer? According to ESPN’s Josina Anderson, the Falcons free agent is on his way to visit Gang Green.

The 26-year-old cornerback is entering his fourth season out of the University of Florida. He and Jets safety Marcus Maye were teammates there from 2013-2015. Poole went undrafted in 2016 but was claimed by the Falcons.

Poole has played in every single game in his career with the exception of one. In 2016, he started nine games and recorded 59 tackles, one sack, 10 pass defenses and one interception. The following season he only started in three games, but still had 63 tackles, a sack and four pass defenses. Last season, Poole started nine games and made 74 tackles with three sacks, six pass defenses and a career-high three interceptions.

Poole would occupy the slot if he were to be signed by the Jets. New York lost its slot cornerback when Buster Skrine decided to sign with the Chicago Bears.

The Jets need some help at cornerback with the departure of Skrine and with Morris Claiborne not expected back. Poole would address the slot, but the Jets still need a player who can lock down the outside behind Trumaine Johnson.
