Report: Falcons DT Michael Bennett broke his ankle at training camp

The Atlanta Falcons suffered a few injuries during the first practice of 2019 training camp. Safety J.J. Wilcox, running back Brian Hill and defensive tackle Michael Bennett all left the field at one point or another to get attention from trainers.

According to a report by Ian Rapoport at NFL Network, Bennett suffered a broken ankle and will be out indefinitely.

Atlanta was already relatively thin at DT. They were widely expected to pick one in the early rounds of this year’s draft but did not. The only addition they made was signing former Saints DT Tyeler Davison. Since then, they’ve shown interest in former Chiefs DL Allen Bailey but haven’t signed anyone.

Expect that to change with this news on Bennett.

As usual, coach Dan Quinn did not offer any updates on Wilcox or Hill after practice. We will know more based on their participation tomorrow.
