Report: Falcons considering ESPN’s Louis Riddick for GM

The Atlanta Falcons have to make significant changes in the upcoming offseason, but it appears they are already well into their search for the next general manager.

After being linked to four candidates, including former Texans GM Rick Smith and former Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie, the Falcons were linked to a fifth name on Monday. As first reported by The Athletic’s Jeff Schultz, Atlanta has added current ESPN NFL analyst and former personnel director for both Philadelphia and Washington, Louis Riddick, to the team’s list of candidates.

Riddick is great on television, but his background shouldn’t be overlooked. Not only has he spent time leading the scouting departments of two different NFL teams, he played six years in the league as a safety, including two seasons (1992 and 1996) with the Falcons.

Originally drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the ninth round of the 1991 draft, Riddick made his regular-season debut in Atlanta in 1992. He appeared in 32 games with the Falcons, starting in five and recording 99 tackles, two sacks and a safety.
