Report: Extension talks between Chiefs, Tyreek Hill could resume soon

It appears that Tyreek Hill’s tumultuous offseason could soon be coming to an end. Hill recently met with NFL investigators in lengthy talks that expounded upon the 4-page rebuttal offered by his lawyer to the NFL. Now, as Hill waits to find out about his immediate future, his future as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs could soon be at the forefront of the conversation.

According to a new report from Yahoo Sports’ Terez Paylor, the Chiefs and Hill’s representation could soon pick up where they left off in negotiations for a contract extension.

Several things would likely have to happen to preface the renewal of contract negotiations between the two sides. The Chiefs would need to reinstate Hill and allow him to be present for training camp. The team has made it clear that they want to reward players that are present during the offseason program and that includes Hill.

The NFL’s investigation would also have to come to an end in a timely manner and with a good outcome for both Hill and the Chiefs. That means no lengthy suspensions, time spent on the commissioner’s exempt list and the NFL’s ruling must not come to the conclusion that Hill harmed his 3-year-old son in any way. The Athletic is currently reporting that the Chiefs have expectations of a maximum 4-game suspension for Hill.

Once contract negotiations do resume, no new and damaging information must come to light regarding this situation. Something like that could put talks back into an indefinite hold, and permanently damage the trust between the Chiefs and Hill.

Ahead of the allegations of child abuse and neglect, the Chiefs and Hill were working on a “record-setting” contract extension. It’s unlikely that his deal will reach record-breaking heights after this entire situation, but Hill is still a priority for the Chiefs. His on-field talent is undeniable, and so far he hasn’t given the team any reasons not to trust him.
