After resigning as coach of the United States women’s national team following the World Cup, Vlatko Andonovski is returning to the National Women's Soccer League.
Andonovski has been hired to coach the Kansas City Current, according to a Friday afternoon report from Steven Goff of The Washington Post.
The Current went 8-12-2 this past season and finished next-to-last in the 12-team league, firing coach Matt Potter on April 19.
In the Women’s World Cup this summer in Australia and New Zealand, the U.S. was eliminated in the round of 16 under Andonovski’s stewardship—by far the worst performance in program history. At the Olympics in Tokyo in 2021, the Americans lost twice and settled for a bronze medal.

Andonovski is a two-time NWSL champion as a coach, having led FC Kansas City to league crowns in 2014 and ’15, and a two-time league coach of the year with FC Kansas City and Reign FC (now OL Reign FC) in Seattle.
An accomplished indoor player, Andonovski scored 48 goals in 110 games for the Major Indoor Soccer League’s Kansas City Comets from 2001 to ’05.
