Former New York Giants quarterback Jared Lorenzen, who is known to Big Blue Nation as “The Hefty Lefty,” has reportedly been hospitalized with an infection and some additional undisclosed medical issues.
Lorenzen’s Mother, Janet Hermes, confirmed the hospitalization with Matt Jones of Kentucky Sports Radio.
Lorenzen starred with the Kentucky Wildcats during his college career before going undrafted in 2004. He signed with the Giants as a rookie free agent and would remain with the team, serving as Eli Manning’s backup, through the 2007 season, winning a ring as part of the Super Bowl XLII team.
After his time with the Giants, Lorenzen had a cup of coffee with the Indianapolis Colts before moving on to various indoor football leagues.
After his playing career had come to an end, Lorenzen ballooned up to over 500 pounds before engaging in a remarkable weight loss battle that saw him drop 100 pounds over the first year.
In four career games with the Giants, Lorenzen completed four of his eight passes for 28 yards. He added two rushes for four yards.
