Report: ex-Celtic center Vincent Poirier headed to 76ers from Thunder

It seems Vinny Sexpants will be a Philadelphia 76er next season, according to the New York Times’ Marc Stein. The former Boston Celtic big man was dealt away from the team to the Oklahoma City Thunder this offseason for cash and a pair of heavily-protected second-round draft picks and cash to cover his salary.

Now it appears that Oklahoma City has structured another deal with the Sixers to absorb Poirier’s contract, where the Clamart native will likely play out his second season in the league if he isn’t cut. For the Frenchman, it may be a bit of a backwards move in terms of a shot a playing time, a significant concern of Poirier heading into the offseason.

Behind Joel Embiid, Dwight Howard, Mike Scott, Tony Bradley and even rookie Paul Reed on a two way deal, it seems much more probable that the former Celtic center will instead be cut, free to find his way to a situation with the minutes he’ll need to carve out a career.

And while it’s looking more likely that that next phase of his career will be in another league, that may well be Mr. Sexpants’ best shot at regrouping for a second shot at the NBA.
